The hit allowed Jeter to pass Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio for most hits ever by a shortstop.
Jeter is just 34 hits behind Lou Gehrig for the most in Yankee history.

Pie Hits For Cycle, Apologizes For Celebration
Orioles outfielder Felix Pie hit for the cycle in the team's 16-6 win over the Angels on Friday night.
He became just the fourth player in Baltimore history to accomplish the feat, and apologized after the game for waving to cheering fans after hitting a triple in the seventh inning to complete the feat.
"It's a special time for me but I'm sad because I showed too much emotion on the field," Pie said, according to the Associated Press. "I apologize to Mike Scioscia and the players on the other team. It's part of the game, emotion, but I showed too much."
Tulowitzki Hits For Cycle, Drives In Seven Runs
Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki hit for the cycle on Monday night in Colorado's 11-5 win over the Cubs.
Tulowitzki also drove in seven runs in the victory.
"We were sitting on the bench together and he was telling me, 'If you get anywhere close to getting a triple you better go,' " Tulowitzki said, according to the Associated Press. "I honestly think if it weren't for him I would have stopped at second."
